Which category do I enter?

Entrants can enter one or more business plans in the following categories:

  • Agri-business and agri-processing:

The production of commercial agricultural (plant, animal or organic) products and/or the transformation of an agricultural product into a value-added product, as well as the provision of services and manufacture/supply of products to agricultural enterprises. Others can include production, processing and sale of agricultural products including aqua culture

  • Information and communication technologies: 

Products and services, including software systems and hardware, that aim to meet consumer and business information technology needs. These includes the design, development, production and supply of products and services related to digital information processing, business, media and communication technologies, progressive and innovative businesses involved in high value knowledge based IT enabled services including: application development for all industries, specialized research, engineering and design, animation, new media and others

  • Business and Professional Services:

Products and services that meet business needs including professional services and the provision of any value-adding service to businesses or consumers

  • Manufacturing and construction:

The design, preparation and production of finished or semi-finished goods, equipment or other products for business or consumer consumption as well as products and services designed to improve the manufacturing process. The design and erection of commercial and residential structures related facilities as well as related products and services designed for this sector

  • Media, Marketing and Communication:

Products and services including consumer and business focused print, electronic, outdoor and digital media; marketing products and services in the advertising, public relations, promotion and market research fields

  • Green and Ecological Business

Businesses that contribute significantly to environmental sustainability and ecological best practice; businesses that have developed new sustainable technologies that can address Kenyan energy, water and pollution needs; products and services that are designed to save, conserve or reduce consumption of energy or reduce consumption of energy or provide alternative energy systems and sources

  • Arts, Sports, logistics, Tourism and recreation

Products and services in the creative industry i.e. which are concerned with the generation, or exploitation of knowledge and information.
The production, development and supply of products and services related to the movement and management, safety, control and other aspects of transportation of passengers or goods.

This sector also includes the design, operation and provision of services and products for domestic or international tourists or businesses operating in the tourism sector. Businesses that demonstrate responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people are encouraged.

Products and services that meet recreational needs including the design, preparation/production of goods and services which an individual is not compelled to use, but rather which are chosen based upon the establishment of their value as being enjoyable, satisfying, interesting, diverting, or otherwise capable of sustaining pleasure for an individual.
