2010 Competition Overview
The 2010 Business Launchpad Competition (BLP) was dubbed Chase Bank Enablis Business LaunchPad. An initiative of Enablis Entrepreneurial Network, the 2010 competition was sponsored by:
- Chase Bank
- Business Daily
- Safaricom Foundation
- East Africa Cables
- Inoorero University
- Youth Entrepreneurship Facility
- Access Kenya
- The ICT Board
The competition was launched on 31st May 2010 and conducted awareness and training in 16 towns across the country. The competition team trained potential entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs who do not have a business plan. The team also trained students from selected institutions of higher learning on the need to have a fundable business plan. Over 2500 people were trained and the competition received and judged a total of 316 business plans.
Analysis of business plans entries received
- The highest number of entries came from Nairobi and Rift Valley Province;
- The majority of business plans submitted were new businesses or start-ups;
- Males exceeded females in the number of entries submitted; and
- The most popular category was Agri -business and Agri-processing, followed by Business and Professional Services.
Judges scored the 316 entries and shortlisted those to 120 which were then judged by a different judge to come up with Top 100 finalists. The Top 100 finalists were announced at a media event hosted by Chase Bank on 21st October and published on Business Daily on 22nd October. The Top finalists were invited to Nairobi for a one week intensive training and judging at Inoorero University from 15th to 18th November. The winners were announced at a gala event held at the Michael Joseph Centre at Safaricom Headquarters on 18th November. A total of 6 winners were unveiled for the 2010 competition
